Block Love Charlotte Hosts Christmas Day Brunch for Motel Residents and Homeless Neighbors

Nonprofit organization brings holiday cheer to families in need with festive meal and gifts

On Christmas Day, Block Love Charlotte is set to host a special brunch from 9 to 11 a.m. for families and individuals residing at the City Inn and Motel 6 along Nations Ford Road.

The event aims to provide a warm meal and holiday joy to those facing housing challenges.

Attendees will enjoy a hearty breakfast accompanied by fruit, cookies, and cupcakes.

Additionally, children will receive gifts to brighten their holiday season.

“When you’re just trying to make sure that motel bill is paid, the last thing you’re probably thinking about is Christmas gifts,” said Deborah Phillips, founder and executive director of Block Love Charlotte.

She emphasized the importance of ensuring that children in motels don't feel left out during the holidays.

“We want to be able to bring that experience to these kids so that when they go back, they’re able to share in the same joy as the other kids,” Phillips added.

Beyond the brunch, the organization plans to distribute tarps and tents to individuals experiencing homelessness in the surrounding area.

Phillips highlighted the value of community involvement, noting that volunteering at such events offers a meaningful way to connect with others and contribute positively.

“It's a great way to meet people, to find out how you can get involved in the city, and most importantly, to show love,” she said.

On Christmas Eve, Block Love Charlotte hosted a toy giveaway for over 700 children at its headquarters on North Graham Street.

For those interested in supporting Block Love Charlotte's initiatives, the organization welcomes volunteers and donations to continue their mission of serving the community.
