🧡 Charlotte Real Estate Community Raises $200K to Help Homeless Neighbors

Charlotte’s nonprofit and housing support landscape just got a meaningful boost from an unexpected corner — the local real estate community.

According to WCNC Charlotte, the Homeowners Impact Fund has raised $200,000 to benefit organizations addressing homelessness in the Queen City.

The Homeowners Impact Fund was founded in 2020 by Vicky Mitchener, a leader in Charlotte’s real estate community, with a mission to unite industry professionals to give back and make a difference locally. The nonprofit invites realtors, lenders, attorneys, developers, and other housing industry partners to contribute to an ongoing pool of community support that goes directly to shelter providers and social service organizations.

Much of this year’s funding goes to support Charlotte shelter services and housing programs at a time when many nonprofits in the sector are navigating funding challenges. One key partner is Roof Above, a leading nonprofit in the region focused on ending homelessness and providing a full range of housing resources, from emergency shelter to long-term housing solutions. Roof Above’s leadership shared that contributions from the Homeowners Impact Fund make tangible differences in advancing their mission and helping neighbors find stability.

The initial idea for the Homeowners Impact Fund began with a simple question — how could those benefiting from Charlotte’s booming housing market give back to those without homes? What started as a plan to connect contributions with real estate closings evolved into larger fundraising events and a broader community-wide approach, bringing diverse industry members together around a shared purpose.

Over the past five years, these collective efforts have translated into significant support not only for Roof Above but also for other partner nonprofits working on issues connected to homelessness, shelter services, and housing stability.

In a city where housing costs and living expenses continue to rise for many residents, the Homeowners Impact Fund’s milestone shows how local collaboration and community support can help address tough challenges like homelessness one step at a time. With plans to grow fundraising efforts even more in the year ahead, the organization and its supporters are committed to continuing their work to make Charlotte a more caring and inclusive place for all.
