Aggie Moms Scholarship and Resource Foundation Offers Essential Support to Students

College life often brings growth and independence, but it can also introduce financial challenges and feelings of isolation. Recognizing these struggles, a group of mothers connected to North Carolina A&T State University took action to support students in need.

The result is the Aggie Moms Scholarship and Resource Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting students at North Carolina A&T. Founded by seven mothers, including alumna Michelle Middleton, the foundation aims to alleviate the burdens many students face.

Middleton recalls her own financial hardships during college and observes that today's students encounter even greater challenges. She notes, "Kids are not receiving the funds they used to receive... looking at the economy now, looking at what's going on with the Department of Education..." This insight led her to collaborate with fellow mothers to create a support system for students.

Within six months, their vision materialized into an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The foundation's mission is rooted in care, dignity, and community, focusing on meeting students' often-overlooked needs.

One of their initiatives includes providing care packages containing daily essentials such as laundry detergent, hygiene products, and snacks. These items address the basic needs that students might lack. Additionally, the foundation offers free mental health support for families, acknowledging that emotional well-being is crucial for both students and their loved ones.

The foundation has also launched a scholarship program, currently accepting applications through a video-based submission process. This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to students, further easing their educational journey.

Beyond tangible support, the foundation fosters a sense of community and belonging. The mothers have become a support system for each other, creating a familial bond that extends to the students they assist. Students have expressed gratitude, with messages highlighting the security and peace of mind the foundation provides.

In a time when not every student has a nearby family or financial safety net, the Aggie Moms Scholarship and Resource Foundation stands as a testament to the power of community action. At North Carolina A&T, students know that even if their families are far away, there are dedicated mothers looking out for them.
