Speedway Children’s Charities Charlotte Chapter Achieves Record $2 Million in Grants to Local Nonprofits |
Annual Night of Joy Celebration Highlights Unprecedented Community Support and Generosity |
The Charlotte chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC) recently hosted its annual Night of Joy Grant Celebration, marking a historic milestone in its mission to support children in need.
During the event, SCC announced the distribution of over $2 million in grants to 95 local nonprofits, a significant increase from the previous year's $1.4 million awarded to 67 organizations.
The celebration brought together more than 400 children and representatives from various charities for an evening filled with holiday cheer.
Attendees enjoyed cookies, hot chocolate, and visits with Santa Claus, culminating in a magical ride through the Speedway Christmas light show, featuring over 6 million sparkling lights.
Reflecting on the achievement, SCC Chairman Marcus Smith expressed heartfelt gratitude: "What hits me in the heart is how good God’s been to us. We have an amazing group of people at Speedway Children’s Charities, our Board of Trustees, executive directors, our team, and so many great sponsors that support SCC and the mission we’re on to support children in need."
Throughout the year, SCC's fundraising efforts included a variety of community-driven events.
Notably, the inaugural Catwalk for Causes event raised over $450,000, contributing significantly to the record-setting total.
Among the beneficiaries was One7 Ministries, an organization dedicated to serving refugee and immigrant families in Charlotte through transitional housing, soccer programs, and youth outreach.
Director Andrea Garvey emphasized the impact of SCC's support: "Although we may be the hands and feet of Jesus, Speedway Children’s Charities is the vessel God is using to empower this work."
Adding to the night's generosity, Coca-Cola Consolidated contributed $50,000, further amplifying SCC's impact.
Vice President of Consumer Connections Heather Hucks highlighted the significance of community stories and the privilege of supporting organizations that uplift children.
National Managing Director for SCC, Jessica Fickenscher, acknowledged the dedication of volunteers, partners, and supporters who make such giving possible.
During the celebration, Cameron and Pam Kirby were honored as the David L. Johnston Volunteers of the Year for their unwavering commitment to the children SCC serves.
On a national scale, SCC will distribute more than $4.9 million across its 11 chapters in 2025, contributing to a cumulative total of over $79 million granted since its inception in 1982.
