When a family from rural North Carolina travels to Charlotte for critical heart surgery, or a caregiver sits vigil during weeks of cancer treatment, the medical bills are just one part of the burden. Hospitality House of Charlotte exists to solve a problem many of us never think about: where do patients and families stay when the treatment is here, but home is hours away?
For 40 years, Hospitality House has provided affordable lodging, just $25 per night, in their 20-bedroom house near Charlotte's major medical facilities, serving families who would otherwise face impossible choices between paying for hotels and paying for care. But this isn't just about beds: it's about creating community during the hardest moments of people's lives, with volunteers who cook meals, offer companionship, and make the house feel like home.
The impact is real
In 2024 alone, Hospitality House served hundreds of families, proving that your zip code shouldn't control your health outcomes. Their "Heart-to-Heart" campaign makes the math simple: every $50 donation covers one night's stay for a family facing medical crisis.
How you can help
Donate: $50 = one night of lodging during a family's darkest hour.
Volunteer: Help cook meals, welcome guests, or maintain the house—volunteers are the heart of what makes this place feel like home.
Celebrate with them: Hospitality House is marking their 40th Anniversary on Thursday, March 20 at 6:30 PM at the Sullenberger Aviation Museum (invitation-only, but contact events@hhocharlotte.org if you'd like to attend).
The next time you drive past one of Charlotte's hospitals, remember: we're not just a medical hub for our own neighbors. We're a destination for families from across the Carolinas who need world-class care—and a Charlotte nonprofit making sure they have a place to rest while they fight for what matters most.
